Paul Nary is an Assistant Professor of Management (Strategy area) at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Nary’s research explores the nuances of corporate strategy, especially those related to M&A and other external transaction strategies. His work also considers the role and behavior of various forms of private capital, such as private equity and activist investor firms, in public markets, as well as the effects of those actors on shareholders and corporations.
Dr. Nary’s work has been published in top strategy journals, including Strategic Management Journal and Academy of Management Review.
Professor Nary teaches Corporate Development, Mergers and Acquisitions (MGMT 7210) in the full-time Wharton MBA program. He had previously taught the Strategy module in the core MBA management course: Managing the Emerging Enterprise (MGMT 6120).
Recognized for his contributions to research, teaching, and service, Dr. Nary is a recipient of multiple awards and grants. He currently serves on the editorial review boards of the Strategic Management Journal, Strategy Science, and Strategic Management Review.
Before becoming an academic, Dr. Nary gained over a decade of hands-on experience in finance and management roles at both private and public firms. As an entrepreneur, he has founded multiple business ventures (with varying degrees of success), giving him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities that both young and mature organizations face.
